60. INTERNATIONAL ART EXHIBITION "FOREIGNERS EVERYWHERE" CURATOR - ADRIANO PEDROSA
Sunday 24 November 2023, the 60th International Art Exhibition closed with a total of 700,000 tickets sold
The 60. International Art Exhibition will be titled “Foreigners Everywhere – Foreigners Everywhere.” The title is taken from a series of works created since 2004 by the Paris-born, Palermo-based collective Claire Fontaine. The works consist of neon sculptures of various colors bearing the words “Strangers Everywhere” in different languages. The expression was in turn taken from the name of a collective of the same name in Turin that was fighting racism and xenophobia in Italy in the early 2000s.
“(…) At the Biennale Arte 2024 we will talk about artists who are themselves foreigners, immigrants, expatriates, diasporic,
émigrés, exiles and refugees, particularly those who have moved between the Global South and North.”
18th ARCHITECTURE BIENNALE 2023 “THE LABORATORY OF THE FUTURE”
Sunday 26 November 2023, the 18th International Architecture Exhibition closed with a total of 285,000 tickets sold
The curator of the exhibition was Lesley Lokko, the first black woman appointed to this position by the Biennale Foundation. The central theme is Africa, which is facing numerous critical problems of an urban, social, political, economic or climate crisis nature. For the first time the history of Western civilization is analyzed through the prism of the inhabitants of the African continent and of the African diaspora in the world. The exhibition will run until November 26, 2023.
